Reflections on Day 1 at Mitundu Community Hospital

Today was Day 1 for AHA’s visiting surgical team here at Mitundu Community Hospital. Word of our arrival spread like wildfire and the community was ready and waiting when we arrived this morning! We did a total of 27 surgeries ranging from debilitating hernias, painful hydroceles, and large facial and earlobe keloids, and we served both adult and pediatric patients. Two patients who came in with bilateral earlobe keloids were elated to see their before and after photos! With every case, we were rewarded with the patients’ gratitude and heartfelt thanks. It is so humbling to see that something that seems so small to one person, can be life-changing for another, and our surgical team is honored to be a part of this mission and serve this community of wonderful people.
