Medical Sponsorships

The Program

While our hospital-based surgery programs provide many procedures to rural patients, some require care that cannot be administered at the rural Kabudula Community Hospital. Our doctors refer those cases to Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, Nkhoma Mission Hospital, or Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre. Referral patients face many costs that most Malawian families cannot afford to pay.

That’s where YOU come in.

When a patient is identified as needing financial support to get more complicated medical care, AHA solicits sponsorships to cover the associated costs which often include transportation, food during hospital stay, diagnostic imaging, lab work, and/or medications not covered by the government’s healthcare system. AHA staff will accompany the patient, if necessary, and will support the patient through the entire process including any questions or issues that may come up post-operation. When patients are discharged, AHA will provide a post-op hygiene package so they can better care for their surgical site upon returning home. These patients could not receive the care they need without sponsorship.
