Patient Spotlight: Takondwa

Takondwa is a 14-year-old girl who is currently attending middle school in the next town after Kabudula. She developed a cyst on her hand last year that became so painful she could not properly carry anything. She made two visits to her nearest health center, but they don’t have equipment for surgery. Then she heard about AHA’s surgical program from a health worker in her area. After school, she rode her bicycle for over an hour to the hospital to sign up for the program, and then again on the day of surgery. She came alone but was determined that her condition should be resolved. After recovery, she looks forward to being able to complete the work that needs to be done at home.

The program is helpful because it’s for free, and accessible to everyone.
