Patient Update: Ousman

We first met Ousman in 2019, when the then 17 year old was found by a local pastor doing an outreach program in remote areas. The pastor’s contacts in the U.S. reached out to AHA for help as Ousman had never been seen by a medical professional given his remote home village. Ousman’s location exacerbated logistical challenges including travel time, communication, and transportation expenses.

In partnership with WAM, we secured a sponsor for Ousman’s care and supported Ousman and his family through the entire surgical process, including all follow up care. Ousman was diagnosed with and treated for a non-cancerous facial tumor.

Before treatment, Ousman struggled to breathe due to the obstruction growing inside his face. He missed being able to play sports and eating his favorite foods like maize. Ousman was also very quiet because talking was difficult. Since having his facial tumor removed, Ousman can now play sports and eat anything he wants, and now we are seeing his true bubbly and talkative personality emerge.

Since receiving care, Ousman’s quality of life has drastically increased. Ousman’s bubbly personality is truly coming out since he can now breathe, talk, and eat without pain!
