Who

Who

We Are

A new organization
with 15 years of experience,

Access Health Africa grew out of World Camp, Inc.,
an NGO created in 2000.

World Camp initially focused on sending international volunteers to Malawi to educate primary school youth about HIV-prevention.

As World Camp grew more established, our vision also grew to address health more broadly. We began to educate about locally-relevant topics such as deforestation and the gender dynamics that helped fuel the spread of HIV.

After over a decade of work in Malawi, our reputation enabled us to partner closely with community leaders, addressing health challenges through in-community health interventions, alongside educational initiatives.

Access Health Africa is founded upon these relationships
& experience.

Vision

We envision a world where individuals have the knowledge and agency to improve health outcomes for both themselves and their communities.

With this foundation, individuals will be able to work toward other freedoms and capacities. Rooted in the hospital system, Access Health Africa envisions building upon its talent for community programming to improve community-based medical interventions – reaching people where they are.

Programs

Camp Hope

Provides a life-altering opportunity for youth living with HIV in Malawi. Camp Hope responds to the burden of HIV/AIDS, one of the largest challenges to health in the nation, utilizing AHA's background in HIV-prevention education & youth programming. This is a residential summer camp, educating campers on their disease, providing drug therapy, and supporting the psychosocial needs of campers. Our goal is to empower our campers to lead their own self-care.

Mediserv

Addresses the shortage of trained surgeons & health care providers by connecting qualified western doctors, nurses, and ancillary staff with opportunities to share their expertise in Malawi. Volunteers provide supervision, offer hands-on guidance, and deliver lectures to medical students while also providing invaluable surgery and emergency procedures.

World Camp Clubs

Educates at the local level. Many of the most pressing health problems in Malawi are highly preventable. World Camp Clubs teach young teenagers about public health topics and support them in creating & executing community awareness events on these topics. This program enables & empowers club members to reach individuals where they are most able to access services.
